HIGHLIGHTS:
1. Objectives: 1. Promoting creative interest and ability in art among children. 2. Enhancing knowledge about Taiwan through artistic interactions among various ethnic groups. 3. Providing families and communities a proper understanding of art in a developmental context, with aims to achieve a more complete and holistic character development in children.
2. Subject: Any subject relevant to the themes of TaiwanFest-LA 2008.
3. Grouping: Group A: ages 4~6; Group B: ages 7~9; Group C: ages 10~12 (age determined as of May 10, 2008).
4. Procedure: 1. Drawing paper will be provided by the host. 2. No restriction on the types of medium used. Contestants will provide their own tools and material, including drawing boards and paints.
5. Sign-up:
1. Pre-registration. If registered by mail or by fax on or before April 30th, contestants will receive a small gift and snacks on the day of the contest. Please send in your entry form and a copy of childˇ¦s ID to: 3001 Walnut Grove Ave. Rosemead, CA 91770; or Fax: (626)307-4388
2. On-site registration: contestants may sign-up in person on May 10th (Saturday) 11:00 am ~ 12:00 pm, (please bring a copy of ID for age verification).
ˇ° Schools, educational organizations, or art workshops are welcome.
6. Location: Greater Los Angeles TaiwanFest 2008 at El Pueblo de Los Angeles (Across from Union Station, downtown).
7. Schedule: begin on May 10th (Saturday) by picking up drawing paper 11:00 am ~ 12:00 pm. All artwork must be completed and turned in by 3:00 pm. All three groups will begin and end at the same time.
8. Prizes: 1. The top five contestants of each group will receive an award certificate, and the top three will receive prize money as follows: First Place $100, Second Place $50, Third Place $20 2. One-third of all artwork from each group will be selected and recognized for merit, and the artists will receive a certificate of merit.
9. Award Ceremony: Winners will be announced on-site at 5:30 pm on May 10th. Prize money and award certificates will be handed out on-site at 4:00 pm on May 11th.
10. Artwork Retrieval: 1. Non-winning artwork can be picked up after the award ceremony. 2. Winning artwork can be picked up from Los Angeles Taiwan Center May 27th - 31st, from 1:00 pm ~ 5:00 pm (artwork may not be returned after the specified dates).
11. All winning or recognized artworks will be posted in the Taiwan Times newspaper.
